Ditch the Small Talk & Dive into the Cuban Crisis, AI Overhype and Internal Leadership in this week's roundup || GGTM Dispatch vol. 12

Sheila encouraged us to go beyond the small talk in her first experience as Toastmaster.

Happy Hour fun times after our meeting! No small talk allowed 😉

Dear Fellow Toastmaster!

How is it the end of May already?! We’re sliding into your inboxes with the last roundup for the month of May.

Last night we:

  • heard about the devastating impacts of the embargo on Cuba

  • ditched the small talk… we don’t care about the weather!

  • found our inner leader

  • dove into the hype around AI

We had a full agenda despite some last minute changes, kudos to Sheila Vida for her hard work here!

📣👮‍♂️Officer Announcements

  • Scott, Club President: Club Officer Elections will be held at the end of June for the next term (July-Dec). If you’d like to contribute to the running and success of the Club whilst developing your leadership skills, this is the opportunity for you. Learn more about the Officer Roles here. We’ll confirm date and time in the next week.

  • Katka & Helen, VPM and Club Secretary:

    • We’re hoping to do a ‘Sustainability’ themed meeting in the coming weeks. If you’re interested in this theme and would like to contribute either with a speech topic (renewable energy, slow fashion, circular economy??), as Table Topics Master or Toastmaster get thinking about what you’d like to do and watch for further details from us.

  • Juan Basulto, VP of PR: We’re planning on hosting a Club social event in June. If you have any suggestions on activities reach out Juan. We’ll confirm a date asap!

@Members, as always please sign up for roles ahead of next week’s meeting which will have Amanda at the helm. We have guides for all functionary roles to make life easier - go for it!

Meeting Notes

We started at 5.59pm on the dot thanks to Sheila’s efficient set up and preparation for this momentous (word of the day) occasion of her taking on the role of Toastmaster for the Evening. Awesome job, Sheila! You were a natural!
