Adjust traveling for Dreamforce

We will still have our regular meeting on 10/15, but we recommend allowing a little extra time to get to the Chamber of Commerce next week. Downtown will be extra busy due to Dreamforce.

🏠 GGTM Storytelling Workshop on October 22(Wed)

Our regular Wednesday meeting on October 22 (updated from October 15) will be ran differently into a Storytelling Workshop led by Kyle and Helen! Join us and learn how to get your stories on stage more creatively!

🎙️Tall Tales of San San Francisco (and Beyond) on October 25 (Sat)

Taking what you’ve learned from the Storytelling workshop, go up on the Hotel Nikko stage once more and celebrate the art of storytelling — where truth is the seed, but exaggeration is the fertilizer!

Tell your (or listen to) real (or imagined) Tall Tales of San Francisco and Beyond. Join us in another magical evening at Hotel Nikko on October 25 (Saturday) from 7:00 to 10:00PM.

Get your tickets here through Eventbrite. Reach out to our VP PR Nikilitha Mdluli ([email protected]) for any questions about this event!

See you at our next live storytelling event at Hotel Nikko!

Snacks and refreshments are on us - just bring your energy, your laughter, and your best on-the-spot acting skills. Come hang out and play with GGTM!

📈 October 8 Meeting Highlights

Thank you Eugene for capturing and describing the events of the meeting as Note Taker! 😁

Theme of Wednesday's meeting was the importance of persistence. Harris stepped up as Toastmaster with a theme that’s important for all of our growth. The word of the day, atmosphere, was inspired by a band Harris listened to in high school!

Thank you to our members who signed-up for roles: Nick, Nithila, Michelle, Helen, Albert, Irene, Ankita, Tavisan and Sheila.

Nithila’s 2-minute special

Our speech portion of the meeting started off strong with a wide variety of topics:

  • 🚗Nithila’s 2 minute special “SF is sooo back” spoke about how the city has changed since the pandemic. And how one can’t go through the pandemic and layoffs without changing.

  • 🕺Nick’s speech “Shadows” was about his sister recently taking him to an ecstatic dance event, and how it brought up old struggles with self-worth (🏆Best Speaker🏆).

  • 🎤Sheila practiced her conference speech “Desktop authentication - Bridging MFA and Zero Trust” with the club. Teaching us that zero trust is when you “trust no one, even if they tell you can trust them.”

Nick’s speech “Shadows”

Michelle led our table topics section, who also just returned from a trip in the Caribbean! Her theme “A journey through the California Academy of Sciences” dove into interesting topics! Some of which were what we think penguins are saying to us, why we think regenerating the natural world is important, and Prasad recalling a recent SF earthquake (🏆 Best Table Topic🏆).

Prasad wins best table topic!

Thank you Albert (🏆Best Evaluation🏆) for giving your feedback on Nick’s speech and being our General Evaluator for tonight. Thank you Helen for providing feedback to Sheila’s speech!

Albert wins best evaluator!

📸 Member Spotlight

Looking forward to hearing your stories Blair!

Welcome to GGTM Blair!

What made you interested in joining Golden Gate Toastmasters?

I'm at a point in my career where communication and leadership are the keys to my continued professional growth. While I've focused heavily on technical skills, I recognize that public speaking and 'thinking on my feet' are areas where I can make significant improvements. A former Toastmasters member suggested I explore the program. After attending several meetings, I'm confident that Golden Gate Toastmasters offers the ideal, structured environment to develop these critical skills. I've also been impressed by how supportive and engaged the members are, and I look forward to contributing to and learning from the group (and making some new friends along the way!).

What will your speech topics be?
I have several topics I'm excited to explore! Professionally, I work on behavioral biases in finance—it's a fascinating subject with broad applicability, and I think I could deliver engaging talks that help others recognize their own decision-making blind spots. On a more personal note, I’d love to share stories centered around resilience and adversity, drawn from my time as a collegiate boxer and my experience supporting animals with special needs. Finally, I'm always ready to talk about the surprising lessons and cross-cultural challenges I encountered while studying and living in China.

Anything else you’d like us to know?
I've truly appreciated how kind, welcoming, and encouraging everyone has been so far. As an added bonus, since my office is across the street, you can count on me for excellent attendance and a high level of commitment to the club.
